Goodbye lips.
Concealer
was my desert island beauty product as a teenager. I used to stock up on
Rimmel's Hide the Blemish Concealer in case she went out of style; Not only did
it provide quick yet long-lasting coverage for breakouts, it also doubled as
lipstick (yes, really).
You see,
concealer lips were a big beauty trend in the mid-2000s, and the best way to
achieve the look was to use real concealer instead of lip primer (it lasted
longer and blended into the skin completely). Rimmel's concealer came like a
perishable bullet so it could be applied the same way you would lipstick and
meant moving top loaders were a breeze
It took me a
extended time to get myself out of things, and I've probably been sporting the
concealer lip look for a lot longer than before. But 10 years later, seeing my
lips with a hint of color seemed strangely tacky.
Looking
back, my plumper lip was probably not a surprising beauty decision after all.
My face looks huge, with all my features turning into a single point of skin
tone. Also, the concealer was so dry that it would settle to the corners of my
lips (I know) without removing and reapplying regularly.
Therefore, I
was a bit surprised when I learned that the hidden lips have returned. While
I'm not averse to the idea altogether (I still prefer cute pink or soft nude
lips to a bold shade), I at least hope that makeup technology has evolved
beyond the point of gluing our lips together with concealer and such. lip
formulas. can provide both feeding and nude coverage.
On TikTok,
it appears that beauty influencers still wear concealer on their lips. Though,
the end result looks better than the original '00s look thanks to the glitter
applied to the top. Also, the trend now is to use two shades of concealer, one
darker to line the lips and one lighter to fill in the center, so there is at
least some level of definition.
Other
TikTokers use concealer to create the fuzzy lipstick. All you consume to do is
slander the lipstick as usual, then apply the concealer on the lip line and
blend for the perfect gradient effect.
The other
lip trick I've discovered is something that I actually tend to try - lips with
a glossy finish and a bit of concealer on top for the ultimate nude lipstick.
Hopefully we
don't start wearing denim mini skirts with leggings and ballet flats ...
